Summer of Adventures 2020-Wilkes County 4-H
Wednesdays at 10 a.m. EST
Even though we are spending more time apart, the learning doesn’t stop. We encourage you to take this time and join us for a summer full of adventures -virtually!
These events are free and open to all 4-H youth and their families.
Tune in each Wednesday at 10 a.m. EST!
Activities include scavenger hunts, crafts, snacks, and so much more! Participants will receive the link to the Wilkes 4-H Summer Adventures Google Site where they will find material lists, print outs, and live streams. Registration is required through Eventbrite.
June 3 – Birds of a Feather
- Do you want to learn how to identify the feathery friends in your backyard? Participants will learn how birds communicate, fly, and build nests. Activities include a virtual owl pellet dissection, bird feeder craft, and themed snack.
June 10 – Life at the Pond
- Have you ever wondered what creatures exist below the murky surface? Did you know you could tell the health of body of water based on the tiny creatures living in it? Participants will learn about aquatic ecosystems and the importance of conserving our natural resources. Activities include a macroinvertebrate stomp, how to make your own seining net, and a splish n’ splash snack!
June 17 – Plants
- What does a plant need to grow? Did you know that you could grow a garden from “trash”? Participants will learn about compost tea, and will make their own greenhouse and self-watering system. We’ll end the day scavenging for dandelions and turning them into our own drinkable tea!
June 24 – Farm Friends
- Put on your boots and grab your feeding bucket as we travel to see what life is like down on the farm! Participants will learn about animal husbandry and visit with goats, chickens, and a very special pig!
Events for July will be posted soon and will follow the same weekly schedule.
