NC Residents warned not to plant unsolicited foreign seed sent to them.

The N.C. Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services released a statement on Monday, July 27, 2020, concerning unsolicited foreign seeds that have been arriving in mailboxes across the state. NC residents are warned NOT to plant the seeds because they could be a pathway for introduction of invasive species, insects, and plant diseases. Please see attached/included NCDA&CS press release.

This type of scam has been seen here locally, and Iredell County residents are encouraged to follow the directions given in the NCDA&CS press release. The Plant Industry Division of NCDA&CS is interested in talking with anyone who receives such mailings. Their contact information is 1-800-206-9333 or newpest@ncagr.gov. Please note that ‘residents are encouraged to come forward and are not in violation of any regulations if they receive such shipments, but they are key to identifying and stopping future shipments.’
