Register is now open for this upcoming seminar hosted by North Carolina Cooperative Extension-Wilkes County Center and the Wilkes Community College Small Business Center:

"Navigating the NC Food Industry: Essentials and Best Practices for NC Food Entrepreneurs"

This workshop will include guest presenters from the local and state level, including Wilkes County Environmental Health, N.C. Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, Wilkes Community College Small Business Center, N.C. State University's Safe Plates Program, and others!

We will also be joined by respected chef and entrepreneur, Dani Black, who will provide business planning considerations, such as financial forecasting, navigating regulations, and dealing with operational realities from the perspective of someone who has owned and managed multiple food businesses firsthand.


Topics to be covered include:

  • The roles of the Wilkes County Health Department, N.C. Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, Wilkes Community College Small Business Center, and N.C. Cooperative Extension
  • Requirements for processing food in your home: freeze dried foods, candies, jams and jellies, baked goods, acidified food products, and value-added supplements
  • Catering, Food Trucks, Fundraisers, & Temporary Food Stands
  • Food products requiring Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) plans
  • Food business planning resources and considerations from respected chef and entrepreneur, Dani Black
