Summer Tree ID Workshop

Trees with green leaves

Do you ever wonder what trees and plants are around you when you are walking through the forest? Join N.C. Cooperative Extension on a hike in Stone Mountain State Park and we will help you get acquainted with the flora you see during the summer while hiking in the mountains of NC. We will follow the Widow’s Creek Trail as it passes through different forest types and explore how forests establish themselves on the terrain.

This 2 to 3 mile round trip hike is considered moderate to strenuous. So be prepared for a little bit of a challenge. We will have two groups, one for faster hikers and another for those wanting a bit more of a stroll.

The hike will begin at 9 am at the Widow's Creek Trail Parking Lot (36°23.6790'N 81°4.1360'W).

Following the hike/workshop, lunch will be provided.

This event will take place rain or shine, although, severe weather will dictate that we reschedule.

Sign Up Online. There is a cost of $10 for this event to cover lunch expenses. Please pay by check only, and send them at least 1 week prior to the event, to:
